GUWHATI — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said the successful launch of ISRO’s GSLV-F18 carrying NVS-03 is a milestone in the country’s navigational capabilities.
He congratulated the scientists for making the mission possible.
India's independent regional navigation satellite system NavIC was restored to its minimum operational configuration of four satellites on Friday as ISRO successfully launched its navigation satellite NVS-03, which was placed into the designated injection orbit by a GSLV rocket.
“A milestone in India’s navigational capabilities. The successful launch of @isro’s GSLV-F18 has ensured that India’s own navigation system, NavIC, is up and running again, eliminating dependence on foreign entities for mapping and shoring up the capabilities of our armed forces,” Sarma said in a social media post.
Congratulating the scientists who were part of the mission, he added, “The nation is proud of you, as always!”
The second-generation navigation satellite NVS-03, with an indigenous and procured atomic clock, has a wide array of applications, including civilian use like real-time tracking of trains, vehicles and shipping vessels.
