Langpangkong Students' Conference marked its 78th foundation day and honoured academic excellence while reaffirming unity, heritage and youth leadership.

CHUCHULIMLANG — The Langpangkong Students' Conference (LKM) celebrated its 78th foundation day marking 78 years of dedicated service towards the welfare, unity and advancement of the student community and the people of Langpangkong range at Chuchuyimlang Town Hall, on June 22.
Coinciding with the foundation day, the Lt. L Pangersowa Trust Award for Academic Excellency programme was also held.
The LKM traces its foundation to June 22, 1948, when visionary leaders came together with the objective of promoting educational and social progress among the youth of the range.
The programme was attended by Wb. Marsanen Imsong president of the Ao Senden as the guest of honour.
In his address, Imsong reflected on the historical origin of the name Langpangkong, highlighting its rich heritage and significance to the people of the region.
He emphasised the importance of preserving the identity, values, and traditions handed down by the forefathers while continuing to strive for progress and development.
Encouraging the younger generation, he called upon students and youths to follow the footsteps of the pioneers of LKM who embodied the organisation's motto, “Telongjem” (Unity).

He stated that the achievements and resilience of Langpangkong over the years were made possible through the collective spirit of unity and cooperation demonstrated by its pioneers, and urged the youth to uphold the same values in addressing contemporary challenges.
The Ao Senden president also highlighted the immense agricultural potential of the Langpangkong range, noting that its fertile land and favourable conditions make it highly suitable for farming and allied activities.
He encouraged students and youths to return to the land and embrace agripreneurship, stressing that agriculture should be viewed not merely as a traditional occupation but as a viable and sustainable avenue for entrepreneurship, employment generation, and economic growth.
He urged young people not to limit their aspirations solely to government services but to explore innovative opportunities in agriculture and related sectors.
On current issues, Imsong also stressed the “Survival Mokokchung” initiative undertaken by LKM under the directives of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM).
He stated that the initiative reflects the growing concern over economic challenges faced by local communities and underscored the importance of safeguarding the interests of indigenous people.
He remarked that the ultimate objective of the initiative is to encourage, empower, and protect local citizens from outside economic exploitation while promoting responsible participation in the local economy.
Meanwhile, Lt. L Pangersowa Trust Award for Academic Excellency, instituted in memory of one of LKMs founding pioneers, L Pangersowa Jamir was received by Imnayangla of Unger village.
She was honoured with citations and cash awards in recognition of her exemplary achievement during the HSLC 2026 examination.
The award recognises outstanding academic achievers from the Langpangkong range and seeks to inspire students to pursue excellence in their educational endeavours.
As LKM celebrates 78 years of existence, the student body reiterated its commitment to nurturing responsible youth leadership, preserving the rich heritage of Langpangkong and contributing meaningfully to society through education, service and community engagement.
