Diphu, Oct. 8 (EMN): Langmili Black Day observance committee held the 17th Martyr’s Day in remembrance of 17 persons who died in Langmili area during an ethnic clash in 2005 at Langmili LP School on Saturday.
During the observation, the family members and relatives of the deceased persons lit candles and offered flowers on the portraits.
President of the observation committee, Bijoy Kro said that every year, ‘the villagers of Langmili have kept in mind to remember those who died when attackers entered the village. The attackers have not spared even children, including adult men and women’.
“There are 500 families, but due to the clash we are being displaced. From Langmili we shifted to Chirikangnep. As we have to start life afresh and we are pushed back. We urged the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council to support us to take up different economic activities.”
It was on October 8, 2005 during the infamous ethnic clash in Karbi Anglong that 17 innocent lives from the Langmili area lost their lives when attackers entered the village. Of the 17 people, there are adults and children. The 17 persons killed were Kison Killing (2), Anon Teron (14), Bidyasing Terang (15), Bilat Killingpi (38), Kolom Rongpi (30), Samphri Killingpi (2), Kensing Killing (25), Rupsing Hanse (10), Paniram Engleng (40), Premika Englengpi (14), Kajol Rongpharpi (25), Alish Englengpi (8 months), Nogen Engti (35), Mamuni Teronpi (25), Serlika Engtipi (1), Roshmi Rongpipi (5 months) and Sardoka Hanse (35).
The programme was attended by secretary, observation committee, Rahul Hanse; Gaon bura Unil Enghi and Rajen Killing; SGB Dhonsing Terang and leaders of KSYC and KSA of Langmili.
