Landslides affect several wards in Nagaland’s Kiphire district

DIMAPUR— Incessant rain over the past few days has triggered landslides at several locations in Kiphire, posing a threat to the lives of the people.

“Among the affected areas were Mission Compound ward, Power Station ward, Jail ward, and certain regions below Kiphire Village Baptist Church,” informed an update from DPRO Kiphire.

It added that a devastating landslide at Mission Compound ward in Kiphire has caused significant damage to the area and affected several families.

At least six families are at risk due to landslides at multiple locations in the district, and there is potential to affect 50-60 more families, said the update.

Responding to the development, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in collaboration with the Kiphire district administration visited the affected areas and provided “relief funds” to six families affected by the landslides, it was informed.

The concerned department is also said to have provided cash relief to the ward chairmen of the Rest House ward and Forest ward to purchase tarpaulins and cover the affected areas, as a mitigating measure, the update said.
