Landslide on Changtongya–Longleng Road disrupts traffic

DIMAPUR — Following heavy rainfall in Longleng and Mokokchung districts on Friday and the early hours of Saturday, a major landslide was reported along the Changtongya–Longleng Road (NH-702), between Chainage 5+785 and 6+050, completely obstructing vehicular movement along the stretch.

Restoration and clearance works have been underway in the affected road since Saturday morning. However, in the interest of public safety and to facilitate vehicular movement, the Deputy Commissioner of Longleng has advised commuters to take the alternate route via Tangha–Kangching–Merangkong Road until further orders.

The alternate route is currently opened only for light vehicles and heavy vehicles have been advised to refrain from using the route.

Stating that the concerned authorities are prioritising restoration and clearance work to restore normal vehicular connectivity at the earliest, the commuters have been requested to exercise due caution and strictly comply with the directions of the authorities and personnel deployed along the affected and alternate routes.
