Landslide damages several houses in Zunheboto

Dimapur, Aug. 17 (EMN): At least 5 houses were damaged by landslide triggered by heavy rains in the morning of August 17, at DC Hill West Colony in Zunheboto town.

The damaged houses include the office of the Home Guards, Zunheboto, informed an update by the DIPR on Monday.

However, there was no report of causalities as the alert residents reportedly evacuated in advance.

Seen in the picture is house damaged by a landslide at Akuluto town.

“It was observed that there was no proper drainage system in place in the vicinity which had compounded the precarious situation contributing to the catastrophe as a result of the heavy rains/ downpour in Zunheboto over the past couple of weeks,” the press release read.

In a separate incident at Akuluto town, heavy rainfall on August 14 evening caused multiple landslides. “One house was taken down and four more houses affected. One person was also injured in the incident,” informed the press release.
