Mokokchung, September 5: About 150 metres stretch of road has been completely damaged in a major landslide along the National Highway (NH) – 2, popular known as Mokokchung- Amguri road at 185.6 Km under Unger village on Monday.
The NH-2 is the main road that connects Mokokchung and Longleng districts with Assam to bring essential goods for Mokokchung and its neighboring districts as Mokokchung- Mariani remained in deplorable condition.
According PWD (NH), Mokokchung Division, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. today resulting in the movement of vehicles on the highway to a standstill. Executive Engineer, Chubatoshi, who visited the site, informed that small portion of the road could be cleared by 5 p.m. today and was able to let the stranded vehicles pass the stretch of landslide area.
He added that two excavators were pressed into action from both end, however due to sliding of huge boulders from the hilltop work could not be continued at night.
The Engineer also said the road will be cleared by September 6.
