Dimapur, Sep. 18: Unprecedented rainfall on the evening of September 16 led to massive landslides at Alahuto and D.C Hill colonies in Zunheboto town, damaging several houses and property.
At least 17 houses were damaged, out of which four were totally damaged by the landslides, informed an update from DPRO Zunheboto. It also affected school-going children but there is no report of causalities and injury.
The district administration, led by the deputy commissioner of Zunheboto, Peter Lichamo conducted a spot verification in the presence of GBs and ward council members, and took stock of the situation on September 16, informed the update, adding that the four affected families were shifted to temporary arranged houses.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Lichamo said that emergency relief fund under Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has been made available to the affected families: INR 20,000 for totally damaged houses and INR 5000, INR 3000 and INR 2000 for partially damaged. He added that people from the colonies also came forward to help the victims. The DC said that the estimated loss caused by the landslide is not yet ascertained.
The district administration has also recommended to the NSDMA for financial help to be given to the affected families.
