Kohima, Jan. 12 (EMN): Phek town is bustling with activity for days now, this time for the upcoming Siikriinye Mini Hornbill festival which will be held from Jan. 15 to 17th.
Siikriinye, the premier festival of Chakhesang Nagas, is organised by the government of Nagaland in association with Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO).
The three-day festival will be marked by Naga wrestling, traditional fire-making, cotton spinning and grass raincoat braiding, earthen pot-making, nettle shawl weaving, bamboo stilt race, bamboo pushing game, exhibition stalls, adventure and outdoor activities at Tizu river, grass pelting, bamboo pole climbing, spot jump, log cutting, cock fight, indigenous tune competition, hollering competition, tug of war, traditional cart race, top fight, and talent night among others.
Apart from Chakhesang community, Pochury cultural troupe, Kivikhu village cultural troupe and Team Metamorphosis Wokha will perform during the festival.
Mini marathon (for under-15 girls) will be held under the banner of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and signature campaign will also be launched under Swachh Bharat on “Towards greener Phek district which is being dubbed as the Land of tradition.
The festival will also witness Siikriinye Half Marathon event under SVEEP campaign and “Say no to Plastic” drive in tune with government’s move to make Nagaland a plastic waste-free state.
Minister for Planning and coordination, and Land Revenue Neiba Kronu will be the chief host of the festival. It will have Y. Patton, deputy Chief Minister (Home and National Highways) as the chief guest on Jan. 15, while KG Kenye, MP Rajya Sabha will be the special guest on the second day and MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu will be the guest of honour for the final day (Jan. 17), and Phek deputy commissioner Orenthung Lotha will be the valedictory guest, according to a statement issued by Chizokho Vero, co-convenor, media committee of Siikriinye Mini Hornbill festival 2019.
