Dimapur, June 18 (EMN): A member of Kiruphema Youth Organisation (KYO) was assaulted by unidentified gunmen on June 15 at around 10 a.m. at Peducha along the National Highway 29.
A KYO press release said the said volunteer was on official duty for public service as the movement of the vehicles has been adversely affected causing untold miseries to the travellers. It said the accused brandished a gun and hit him resulting in multiple injuries on his head.
KYO has condemned the incident and appealed to the concern authority to take necessary action. KYO further cautioned that any group or individual collecting tax on vehicles at the landslide area would panelise as per its constitution.
Meanwhile, Anagami Students’ Union (ASU) has condemned the assault meted to Vikehiekho Dahou, a member of Kiruphema Youth Organisation, by some unidentified gunmen on June 16.
Irked by the brazen act of the perpetrators, who identified themselves as members of a certain NPG group, ASU stated it not tolerate such goons acting under the banner of NPG targeting the KYO and its volunteers, who have been engaged selflessly in rendering their best service for the public commuting in the landslide area.
The Union warned those culprits to identify themselves or face a manhunt. The Union also wished a speedy recovery to the injured person and extended its support to KYO.
ASU also warned those elements, who are hell bent to sabotage the ongoing developmental works in Angami jurisdiction.
It said there will be befitting consequences for elements indulging in unlawful activities, particularly the nuisance of extortion by the NPGs on the ongoing four lane road project between Dimapur and Kohima.
It felt that NPGs should display maximum restraint and desist from unacceptable and unlawful activities, which otherwise may become detrimental to the progress of the crucial Naga movement. The Union, while affirming to remain vigilant in deterring unlawful elements, also extended its fullest support to the NCSU and all its fraternity.
This was stated in a joint statement issued by its president Visako Rino and the general secretary Vizokho Zashumo.
