The Kohima Village Youth Organisation demands administrative action to mandate Census 2027 registration for Kohima residents.
KOHIMA — The Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) has demanded administrative interventions to strictly mandate registering of Kohima residents in the ongoing census exercise, which began on July 1.
In a representation submitted to the deputy commissioner of Kohima, the KVYO pointed out that as the administrative headquarters and capital city, Kohima extends substantial civic amenities, public resources, and state welfare benefits to all its residents.
However, the organisation noted that a significant number of residents, who have made Kohima their primary place of residence and livelihood, are circumventing local census registration.
The KVYO stated that this practice leads to severe demographic misrepresentation and places an undocumented strain on the city’s resources. It added that it is imperative that those who reap the benefits of residing in the city are accurately accounted for in the local census.

The organisation called for administrative interventions to mandate all persons residing in Kohima to register their census within the jurisdiction of Kohima.
Additionally, the KVYO demanded a verification drive for welfare beneficiaries to ensure that civic benefits and welfare schemes are allocated based on accurate local census data.
The KVYO cautioned that if these residents fail to register their census in Kohima, the organisation will vehemently oppose their continued access to the welfare schemes, subsidies, and civic privileges they currently receive.
"We cannot support the distribution of city resources to those who refuse to be officially counted as part of its population," the representation stated.
The organisation urged the administrative office to take immediate and decisive action on the matter by issuing a strict directive to ensure compliance.
