An awareness and training programme on aromatic plants under CSIR Aroma Mission 4.0 was conducted by KVK Wokha for farmers in Wokha.
WOKHA — An awareness and training programme on aromatic plants, coupled with the distribution of quality planting materials to farmers, was held at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall in Wokha on September 28.
The programme was organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha in collaboration with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Jorhat, under the CSIR Aroma Mission 4.0.
Speaking as the special guest, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Wokha Sangmou Khiamniungan said the success of the initiative should not be measured by the distribution of seeds and saplings alone, but by the ability of farmers to cultivate the plants successfully and generate sustainable income from them.
He noted that growing health consciousness among consumers and the increasing popularity of products such as green tea present opportunities for farmers to venture into entrepreneurship. He encouraged farmers to begin on a small scale, gradually expand their operations, and establish proper market linkages.
Technical Consultant of CSIR-NEIST Dr. Rahman Amasari conducted the technical session, covering sowing and planting techniques, land requirements, harvesting methods, medicinal value, and marketing prospects of aromatic plants.
Participants were also introduced to various value-added products and by-products derived from chamomile and lemongrass.
Highlighting the objectives of CSIR Aroma Mission 4.0, Dr. Amasari said the initiative focuses on supporting farmers through scientific cultivation practices and market-orientated approaches.
The programme concluded with the distribution of saplings and seeds to participating farmers.
