DIMAPUR — Indian
Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek (NRC
on Mithun, Medziphema), organised a “Krishi Choupal” programme on Saturday in
collaboration with the district's DFI farmers at the KVK premises.
The session began with an address by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar
Singh, senior scientist and head, followed by a lecture on the farmers'
participatory role in the collection and conservation of crop germplasm,
according to a press release.
During the event, various lectures were delivered on a range
of topics. Dr. Hannah K Asangla, CTO, Agronomy, presented on the importance of
biofortified crop varieties. Dr. Esther L, CTO, Soil Science, discussed
agricultural technology for sustainable farming.
Dr. Venkatesh G, SMS, Agricultural Engineering, covered
micro-irrigation for hill agriculture. Dr. Sharanappa, SMS, Plant P
rotection,
explained Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in paddy. Mr. Manjunath, SMS,
Horticulture, elaborated on the protected cultivation of vegetable crops.
Additionally, a live webcast showcased 109 new biofortified
crop varieties released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Krishi
Choupal.
The programme also featured an interactive session and the
distribution of various inputs to farmers from different villages across the
district. A total of 110 participants attended the event.
