DIMAPUR, AUGUST 14: ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek, conducted a vaccination cum health check up camp in Middle Khomi village in Phek district on August 9 in which a total of 120 mithuns were vaccinated against Foot and Mouth Diseases (FMD) besides administering health check-up.
Mineral supplements, dewormers and first aid medicine were distributed during the programme.
FMD is a highly contagious disease of viral origin and known to inflict huge economic loss among the mithun farmers of the State. However, regular immunisation against the dreaded disease could give protection from constant risk of exposure to the virus. The team was led by Dr. Debojyoti Borkotoky, SMS (Animal Science) from KVK, Phek, and Dr. PR Dutta, ACTO, NRCM, assisted by staff Rokongulie, Veterinary Field Assistant, and Thupupoyi.
FMD vaccines were provided by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Government of Nagaland. Ear tags were applied to the calves and adult animals to keep proper records and identification. On constant motivation and demonstration by KVK, Phek, the mithun farmers of the village have taken to regular vaccination and other prophylactic care of their animals.
M Khomi mithun farmers have expressed gratitude to the Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and the Programme Coordinator of ICAR KVK, NRC on Mithun, Porba in Phek district for extending valuable service to the mithun farmers and the village.
