DIMAPUR — The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Peren, organised a ‘Farmer scientist interaction-cum-inputs distribution under NEH programme’ at KVK office, Jalukie, on Thursday, chaired by Dr. Prashant Kalal, SMS-Fruit Science, KVK Peren.
According to an update, the farm inputs distribution was sponsored by ICAR-National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms (NBAIM), Mau, Uttar Pradesh, under the NEH component.
The event brought together farmers from all regions of the Peren district to discuss innovative agricultural practices.
Dr. KL Meena, Principal Scientist & Head, KVK Peren, spoke about KVK activities and NEH component. He said that the NEH component is for agricultural development in the NEH states, and its aim is to uplift the socio-economic status of the tribal farmers through the intervention of innovative technologies.

Dr. Meena thanked the director of NBAIM, for sponsoring farm inputs for Peren farmers under NEH component.
Dr. Harendra Verma, Senior Scientist (Plant Breeding & Genetics), ICAR- Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, addressed Peren farmers and informed them about superior rice breeding lines and their performance in Nagaland. He encouraged the farmers to start agri-entrepreneurship for livelihood enhancement.
Rajneesh Meena, AO, ICAR-NBAIM, encouraged the farmers to adopt an integrated farming system with livestock, stating that the best water harvesting practices throughout the year lead to increased production.
Col. Mohit Kumar Bansal, 9th Assam Rifles, Jalukie, the special guest, urged the farmers to take advantage of different agricultural schemes in an effective manner for enhancing production and productivity. He lauded the farmers' role in the country’s food security, as well as their economic contribution.
The technical sessions on various topics were held. Dr. Harendra Verma delivered a lecture on ‘Varietal options and management practices of rabi field crops.’
Z James Kikon, CTO-Soil Science, KVK Peren, delivered a lecture on ‘Effective usage of farm tools and equipment.’
Dr. Prashant Kalal, SMS- Fruit Science, KVK Peren, delivered a lecture on ‘Biofertiliser for soil health,’ and Dr. Akshay Ujjwal, SMS-Agronomy, KVK Peren, spoke on ‘Organic farming for sustainable crop cultivation.’
Thereafter, farmer-scientist interaction was involved, and where KVK Peren scientists and Dr. Harendra Verma addressed the solutions for the challenges and issues faced by the farmers.
Farmers were actively involved in the discussion on crop protection, the integrated farming system, and good agricultural practices etc.
Farm inputs such as garden pipes, tarpaulin sheets, gum boots, shovel, spades, bush-cutter, and raincoat were distributed to 150 farmers of the Peren district.
