Dimapur, March 28 (EMN): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Kohima organised a training programme about issues concerning protection of plant varieties and farmers rights on March 27 at its office in Kohima. The programme was sponsored by Protection and Plant Varieties and Farmers Authority, New Delhi. Updates from organisers informed.
Resource person, ACTO of KVK Mon, Manoj Sachan spoke about the importance of intellectual property right, geographical indication and plants gene bank. He encouraged the farmers, community members, farmers clubs, SHGs and others to register their crops as it protect the identity of the crops.
Altogether 99 farmers from ten villages participated in the programme.
Also, KVK of Tuensang conducted a three-day farmers training on focused horticulture crops for nine villages under Tuensang district from March 26 to 28th at Longpang.
The training was sponsored by the Central Institute of Horticulture Medziphema and organised in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tuensang, and Eleutheros Christian Society,Tuensang.

The main objective of the programme was to train and equip the farmers about the scientific cultivation practices for the horticulture crops of Tuensang district for better productivity and returns.
Resource persons programme were Tokiho Achumi, ACTO (agronomy); Imtilemla, ACTO (soil conservation); Shisarenla Aier, SMS (horticulture); Yanger Kichu, (farm manager); Seveto Nyekha, (programme assistant), and Lichamo Yanthan (AHP).
Introduction to nursery propagation techniques and importance of nursery accreditation in Tuensang; organic cultivation of Naga king chilli; cultivation of ginger and its management practices; integrated management of pest and disease in ginger; and background information of citrus decline and identification of symptoms were some topics covered during the programme.
