Dimapur, Nov. 27 (EMN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kiphire, under ICAR for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, organised an awareness camp on natural farming and distribution of piglets under ‘Biotech Kisan Hub’ project in Phelungre village covering beneficiaries of Litsaong and Phelungre villages with Senti Longchar, DHO of Kiphire, and Nzanthung Yanthan, DFO of Kiphire, as the special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung, senior scientist and head of KVK Kiphire, stated that the concept of natural farming has gained popularity over the years due to high usage of chemical fertilisers and pesticides leading to degradation in the soil. He informed that that the main objective of the farming system was to improve the overall health of the soil by adopting to natural means of cultivation such as minimum tillage, use of bio agents for soil fertility and pest control, adoption of legume based cropping systems and adoption of biomass based mulching technology.
He informed that ‘desi cow’ forms the main component of the natural farming, where cow dung and cow urine are used for making Beejamrut and Jivamrut for soil enrichment and pest control.
Meanwhile, Senti Longchar has highlighted about the CM’s micro finance initiative and various projects in different departments. He informed that under the scheme, 10% would be the beneficiary contribution, while 60% would be loan amount and 30% subsidy.
Nzanthung Yanthan has highlighted about the various schemes being implemented by the department and encouraged the farmers to take full advantage of the government programmes.
The programme was led by Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung and the vote of thanks was pronounced by Seroba Sangtam, HEA, DHO Kiphire.
After the programme, 60 piglets under Biotech Kisan Hub project implemented by KVK Kiphire were distributed to 30 beneficiaries. A total of 50 farmers participated in the programme.
