DIMAPUR —More than 10,000 farmers of Chümoukedima,
Dimapur and Niuland districts have benefitted from the ongoing Viksit Krishi
Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) campaign. The campaign is being conducted by KVK Dimapur
along with the Agriculture and allied departments of Nagaland in the three
districts.
On June 6, four teams conducted the programme at Unity
village, Diphupar A, Chekiye, Toulazouma, Thilixu, Sangtamtila, Chümoukedima A,
Shokhuvi, Disagaphu, Hevishe, Shitoi and Phuhoto villages.

The teams comprised of KVK scientists, scientists from ICAR
Nagaland Centre, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, professors from Central Agricultural
University (CAU, Jalukie), state officials from department of Agriculture,
Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Land Resource
Department, Fisheries and NSRLM.
The outreach programme focused on bridging the gap between
the advanced agricultural technologies and knowledge level of farming
community. One of the significant impacts of the campaign was the awareness
given to the farmers especially on the importance of timely vaccination of
livestock to prevent Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in animals which is common in
Nagaland.
An update from KVK Dimapur stated that farmers were also
apprised on integrated farming system, crop diversification, insect pests
management on vegetable crops, production and management of major kharif
crops-rice and maize.
The team also observed grassroots level problems faced by the
farmers such as the fall army worm infestation in maize, livestock disease
outbreak, irrigation problems, lack of machineries for farming activities etc.
The team also gave information to the farmers on the
scientific methods of rearing of mithun and pigs using artificial insemination.
Besides, the teams also made efforts to make the farmers
understand on different schemes of agriculture and allied activities such as
PM-KISAN, soil health card, Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM),
National Mission on Edible Oilseeds (NMEO), National Mission on Sustainable
Agriculture (NMSA), Param Paraghat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), Pradhan Mantri
Agricultural Irrigation Scheme (PMKSY) etc.
The campaign also focused on knowledge enhancement of
farmers to know the status of the soil before sowing the crop and how to
ameliorate acidic soil and to adopt vermicomposting from farm waste.
Report also stated that leaflets on latest agricultural
technologies, which is translated in local language were also distributed to
the farmers.
It further stated that KVK Dimapur would continue to address
the problems and challenges faced by the farmers and spread new technologies
for agricultural advancement in the days to come.
