DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 10: Commemorating 25th anniversary, Kohima Village Gazetted Officers’ Association (KVGOA) formally inaugurated its Island near NPSC Office, Kohima, by KVGOA president, Er. Keviletuo Yiese and dedicated by pastor of Christian Revival Church, Kohima village, Vichülie Kelieo, on October 9.
Er. Keviletuo, in his welcome address, thanked the Kohima district administration for allowing KVGOA to adopt the present traffic island for beautification of Kohima city. He also thanked the Jubilee Park Committee led by Dr. Menuosietuo Tseikha for successful completion of the work.
He said the initiative of KVGOA to adopt the island for beautification was a small and humble gesture yet a symbolic step to show the organisation’s concern and love for Kohima city. He hoped it will set precedent for others to follow suit and encouraged all other organisations in and around Kohima to come forward and beautify Kohima city.
He further called upon all KVGOA members to extend their support and work together for KVGOA, the village and the society in the days to come.
Dr. Menuosietuo, Convenor of the Jubilee Park Committee, speaking on significance of the Island, said the Island was adopted in commemoration of KVGOA 25th years of existence.
The KVGOA Island measures an area of 582.46 Sq.m with a perimeter of 91.16 metres, he informed. On the design concept, the Convenor informed that minimum design elements consisting of traditional and modern materials were used keeping in view of the location in terms of security, usage, etc.
He said five pillar stones skillfully hand-carved into the letters “KVGOA” have been placed strategically in the middle of the oval Island making the carved letters visible from all ends. Focus light has also been provided for illuminating the letters at night.
25 pillar stones about 3’0”-4’0” height signifying the 25 years of KVGOA, each stone depicting a year starting from 1991 to 2016, have been placed at equitable distance along the periphery of the Island. Railing with galvanised iron pipes and chains have been used in between the stones to act as a boundary restricting passage inside the island at the same time adding aesthetical purpose to the Island.
Outdoor lamps have been provided atop for safety of passerby at night. Landscaping inside the island comprising of green turf spread the whole Island surrounded by non-seasonal flowering plants and stone pebbles are also provided. Edges/hedges of different coloured leaves with low maintenance have been planted along the periphery of the Island.
