DIMAPUR — The
Kacharigaon (Phevima) Village Council along with its youth organisation and
students’ union has vehemently condemned the brutal assault and torture on
three Naga youth, two of whom are bona-fide citizens of its village on December
17.
“We are totally shocked, disturbed and enraged as to why for
no reason or fault of our members they should be abducted at gun point, shoved
into iron cage and inhumanly tortured?” the organisations stated.
It claimed that the plea and request of the younger brother,
a student, to have mercy on them were not heeded to but instead ridiculed the
young student who could not bear the pain of rifle butt hit on his stomach.
The three bodies have demanded the authority to arrest all
the accused involved in the inhuman torture of Naga youth and book all the
accused persons under relevant National Security Act to prevent such atrocities
on Nagas in the future.
Meanwhile, it expressed solidarity with the brothers and
wished them a speedy recovery.
In another statement, the Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD)
has vehemently condemns the incident of abduction and assault on four
civilians, including one of its bonafide members, which occurred in the early
hours of December 17.
It stated that the heinous act, perpetrated by unknown
assailants at gunpoint, is a grave violation of human rights and a direct
threat to the safety and security of the community. It has urged the law
enforcement agencies and investigating bodies to remain steadfast and not
succumb to any external pressures but also promptly serve justice to the
victims.
The union also called upon the central government and the
cease fire monitoring authority to clarify the status of those involved in the
incident. ASUD further asserted that any incident affecting its community
members would not be tolerated.
