Kut festival celebrated with fervour in Manipur

Imphal, Nov. 1 (EMN): Kut, the post-harvest festival of the Kuki-Chin-Kizo communities was celebrated with traditional fervour, gaiety and cultural shows in Manipur on Friday.

The state-level festival was held at the Parade Ground of 1st Manipur Rifles in Imphal, with Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren as the chief guests for the morning and evening sessions.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that Kut festival is a festival of thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest and one of the most important festivals not only for the Kuki, Mizo and Chin communities but of the entire state.

In the evening session, the chief minister appealed the gathering  to make Manipur a strong state by respecting and sharing mutual understanding among the communities.

He expressed his desire to hold the Kut festival in a bigger way to attract tourists from other parts of the world.

Earlier, the governor released Kut souvenir, 2019  and also presented ‘Kut Pa 2018’ Haukhothang Baite.

Miss Kut 2019, a beauty contest, participated by 21 belles representing various communities settling in the state  was a special attraction of the event.

Manipur is always bustling with the cycle of numerous festivals. The festivals of Manipur project their cultural, social and religious aspirations.
