DIMAPUR — The Konyak Union, Myanmar (KUM) has conveyed appreciation to the NSCN (Niki) for its appeal that Nagas should not be divided by artificial boundaries.
The KUM in a press release stated that the NSCN (Niki) had, in a press statement on July 12, clearly mentioned that “border lines” between Naga inhabited areas were drawn by outsiders without the consent or knowledge of the Nagas.
The union said eastern Konyak Naga areas are still in a dilemma as to serve which so-called “Naga Political Group” leaders.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Appealing that every Naga should consider themselves as “one Naga,” rather than differentiating between “Nagaland Naga and Myanmar Naga,” the union pointed out that eastern (Myanmar) Nagas still stand for “Naga issue,” right from the 1950s when the NNC came to the eastern Naga areas to fight for a independent Naga nation.
The union went on to state that the Naga pioneers vowed to bring Naga sovereignty to the entire Naga people, irrespective of artificial boundaries.
Pointing out to the plight of the eastern Nagas, the KUM said that they are lagging far behind other Naga brothers in terms of education, communication and health care, since neither the Myanmar government nor Indian government care about them.
“This cause should be recognised by western Naga people. When NNC came to eastern Naga area they did not mention or call us as Myanmar Naga,” the union said and added that the NNC only said that “Nagas are one.”
“Unfortunately some of the Naga national leaders started calling us Myanmar Naga from 2010. This is unacceptable words for the Eastern / Myanmar Naga,” it stated.
The union also sought clarification that if Nagas are to be differentiated, then why the various NSCN/GPRN groups are using the “same motto and nomenclature.”
It also questioned whether the “Indian Naga leaders” are serving for all Nagas without borders, and that they should re-think about the past struggle and how they survived.
The union further reminded all the Naga national groups about the formation of the Naga national movement, which was “reformed from the eastern Konyak soil, particularly in general Naga area for the Nagas cause.”
Meantime, the KUM also cautioned some eastern Konyak students who are allegedly collecting “illegal fund” for their personal maintenance, at the cost of the suffering public.
