
MOKOKCHUNG — Khiamniungan Union Mokokchung (KUM) has cautioned its members against indulging in anti-social activities such as smuggling in arms and narcotic drugs and added that the union would not be held responsible in such cases.
This was announced during the first mass public meeting of the union held at the premises of Khiamniungan Baptist Church in Mokokchung town on June 24 with the participation of more than 320 members.
Speaking at the meeting, L Bumeng Lam, deputy superintendent of jail, exhorted the members on the necessity to reform one’s lifestyle. He stated that a person, who does not abstain from intoxicants and not take care of his/her lifestyle would never become successful in life, an update from KUM stated.
K Sangsa, advisor of KUM, stated that Khiamniungan community in Mokokchung town is a conglomeration of different villages and clans coming together and living in the town. Mentioning that they may belong to different ranges, villages, and clans but they are all one in the town, he, therefore, stated that no individuals should create separate unions or associations and break away from the union.

S Pahin Meyah, KUM vice president, spoke on the importance of maintaining a cordial and respectful relationship between domestic helpers and owners stating that their real parents are the owners. He especially encouraged the helpers, who are studying and living in someone else’s house, to value the purpose of getting education and to serve their tribesmen and villagers in return.
He further informed the members to get themselves registered as KUM members and to let all the guardians be informed about the registration. He mentioned that KUM would not be responsible for any inconveniences or issues that might arise against those members who do not register with the union.
Kheloi, vice president of Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (Khiamniungan Women’s Organisation), Mokokchung unit, also spoke on the occasion.
