KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 25: Kuki United FC trounced Street Hawks FC 3-0 to advance to the semis of the ongoing Classic Cup tournament here at Kohima local ground.
Playing the last quarterfinal match of this edition, Street Hawks FC suffered defeat from a team who outclassed them with an all round performance today.
Street Hawks FC players were sluggish in the field and could not withstand the might of the Kuki players who proved too strong for them during the 80 minutes match.
Kuki United’s defender Thangminlal delivered a brilliant long range shot in the 12th minute to give his team the first lead. Thangminlal’s shot hit the net as the keeper of Street Hawks FC, Athung misread the ball by stepping forward.
In the second half, Kuki United FC took the second lead through their centre forward Ginkholen in the 48th minute.
Trailing behind with two goals, the Street Hawks FC did every possible thing to come back in the game, but failed to make any successful penetration into the strong defence line of the Kuki United FC.
Just minutes before the final whistle, Elminhao ensured the victory for Kuki United FC by netting the third goal in the 79th minute.
Though making it to semis, Kuki United will have an area of concern as one of their key midfielder Letminthang was cautioned with a yellow card during the match.
With the victory, Kuki United have now joined Barak FC, Head Hunters and Naga FC who have already qualified to the round of last four.
The first semi-final is scheduled tomorrow between Barak FC and Head Hunters; while in the second semi-final, Naga FC will take on Kuki United FC. Both the matches will commence at 2 pm.
