IMPHAL, Sep 13 (EMN): The Kuki students took out a rally in Imphal on Wednesday. The rally according to the organisers was held as part of observing September 13 as ‘Sahnit Ni’ or black day.
The observation was held to fondly remember those who had died during ethnic clashes which took place 24 years ago in Manipur.
Demanding settlement of kuki issues before finalisation of (Indo-Naga) framework agreement, the rallyists wearing black attires staged the rally which passed through the roads in and around Thangmeiband and North AOC and converged at the starting point Thangmeiband Athletic Union Ground in Imphal.
They expressed remorse over the bloodshed and regretted that the Government of India has not been heeding to the long-pending demand of the Kuki civil society that all perpetrators responsible for the carnage should be brought to justice.
The key demand of the rallyists include justice be brought before the ‘final solution’ to the Naga issue.
In a recent Memorandum to the Prime Minister, Kuki Inpi Manipur, apex body of the kuki community in the state demanded legal settlement of the heinous crime against humanity, resettlement of and restoration of 360 villages and 1 lakh displaced villagers.
The Kuki Inpi have appealed to five Prime Ministers who preceded you in that position of authority and responsibility,but none of them have shown the sense of justice nor pressure of conscience to act to deliver justice to their fellow citizens, it lamented.
The Kuki Inpi shall be duty-bound to consider other alternatives, if the government of India’s apathy and negligence persist concerning kuki aspirations, according to the memorandum.
There are also reports of holding functions at many Kuki dominated areas to mark the anniversary.Earlier on August 9 this year, a public rally was also held in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district headquarters, 45 km north of Imphal in support of the third round of 3rd round of tripartite talks involving militant groups-Kuki National Organisation and United People’s Front, Centre and State Government.
