The killing of two young labourers allegedly by the cadres of Kuki Revolutionary Front (KRF), an armed group which is currently undergoing Suspension of Operation with the government, has evoked widespread protest in Manipur’s Patsoi constituency in Imphal West district on Wednesday. The angry villagers of Patsoi mostly womenfolks and youths have come out from their respective places and staged a sit in demonstration in the middle of the Patsoi sector of the Imphal-Silchar highway by blocking the road since early morning.
The dead bodies of the two labourers-M Dayananda (19) of Patsoi Part III village and M Premananda (20) of Haorang Keirel village under Imphal West district who went missing from their work shed at Mapao Khullen village on Sunday, were recovered near Thingshat village under Saikul Police station in Senapati district on Wednesday, sources said.
Protesting the incident, the villagers of Patsoi area in association others formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the brutal killing of Dayananda and Premananda following a joint meeting for future course of action.
A key functionary of JAC said that they’re demanding justice into the incident by giving necessary legal action against those involved in the incident within two days time. She warned that otherwise the committee may take up various forms of agitation in association with the general public.
According to Patsoi locals, the two young labourers along with a school going student went missing from their workshed at Mapao Khullen on Sunday. But student K Bishal (13) of Haobam Marak in Imphal, a class VI student was released through the local villagers and he is presently under treatment at RIMS hospital in Imphal while the two labourers were found killed. The reason behind the killing is yet to be ascertained. However another informed source claimed that the duo might have killed during the course of an interrogation.
The two dead bodies which bore bruise mark were recovered by a combined team of state police commandoes and Assam Rifles.
Meanwhile in a pre-dawn operation, a combined team also rounded up eight KRF cadres in connection with the incident.However there is no report of recovering any arms and ammunition from their possession. Officials of Saikul police station when contacted said that they’ve registered a case in this regard for further investigation.
