- DIMAPUR — A
two-day 11th edition of Mimkut-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival celebration of the
Kuki community concluded on January 17 at Ahthibung public ground under Peren
district.
- An update from Kuki Inpi Nagaland (KIN) stated that
participants from various villages showcased the beautiful and vibrant heritage
of the Kuki community during the two-day event.
- On January 16, Mohit Kumar Bansal, Commandant of 9th AR
stationed in Jalukie, attended the celebration as the special guest, while L
Singsit, president of Kuki Inpi Nagaland, was the chief host.
- The traditional opening of the festival was performed by Nagmseh
Chongloi, Head GB of Ahthibung town, while the invocation prayer was said by
Rev, Seimang Haokip, executive secretary of KCC Nagaland Synod.
- The first day of celebration was marked with display of
cultural items including cultural dance competition.
- The invocation prayer on the second day was said by Rev.
David Suantak, executive secretary of KBA Nagaland, where the deputy
commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru, was the special guest.
- It stated that KIN president, L Singsit, delivered short
speech on the significance of Mimkut festival. He thanked the government of
Nagaland for recognising Minkut as one of the state festivals and for granting
restricted holiday since the 1970s. He also thanked the government for funding
the festival as a part of the Mini Hornbill Festival every year.
- Addressing the public, the special guest called for unity
and urged the community to work with honesty and dignity for the uplift of the
region socially and economically.
