
Khiamniungan Union Dimapur (KUD) celebrated ‘Khaozaosie Hoka-ah’ festival-cum-34th general session on January 19 and 20 at Diphupar ‘B’ local ground with Shikaho Zhimomi, president of Western Sumi Hoho, as the special guest.
An update from the union stated that the two-day festival-cum-general session witnessed various cultural performances and traditional games displayed by different sub-units of the union namely Khiamniungan Cultural Club Dimapur, Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam Dimapur, Khiamniungan Students’ Union Dimapur, and Khiamniungan Sports’ Alliance Dimapur. The event was attended by Khiamniungan community living in Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts.
Speaking on the occasion, the special guest has highlighted on the ‘Goodwill Fraternity Meet’ resolutions of 2005 and 2009 between the Khiamniungan and Sumi communities on two occasions with exchange of traditional dao (machete) and fraternity scroll. He reaffirmed that the two tribes have resolved to be an agent of change to rebuild fraternal relationship and continue to uphold even in the days ahead.
It stated that different frontal organisations under the Western Sumi Hoho also attended the celebration.
The celebration also was attended by P Longon, former minister; S Shingnyu, public leader; and S Khomo, retired police officer in-charge.
Meanwhile, the union has thanked all individuals, participants, different unions and villages, Diphupar ‘B’ Council, stakeholders and well-wishers for making the celebration a grand success.
