Dimapur, June 18 (EMN): Konyak Union (KU) has ridiculed the “Republic News Channel” for terming the Chief Minister’s condolence message on the sudden demise of a Naga leader late Shangnyu Shangwang Khaplang as “Shocker.”
Stating that in Nagaland it is the people and the State government that control and subdue many form of violence, KU said it was important for a responsible leader to express grief during such hour. Such act of understandable relation was adhered and executed by the successive chief ministers of Nagaland, KU president S Manlip Konyak and the general secretary M Honang Konyak said in a joint statement.
On the contrary, Konyak Union (KU) wanted to ascertain if the Republic News Channel could unearth the truth as to how the doctored policies had lead to violence and the brand “Terrorist.” It told the “Republic News Channel” to learn that “the history of Nagas is unique and it cannot be bargained.” While firmly upholding its stance for peaceful and early solution, Konyak Union (KU) has outrightly refuted the June 10 press statement of the Union Home Minister of State Kiren Rijiju wherein he stated late Shangnyu Shangwang Khaplang had died at Kachin State (Myanmar). It said such unfounded statement was indeed a “shocker.” It questioned how the State Union Home Minister and an Arunachali could be so ignorant about the territorial extension and existence of its immediate neighbour?
It said Kachin is a tribe/state in the north-eastern frontier of Myanmar sharing its western boundaries with the Nagas who occupies the north-western frontier under the Union of Myanmar. Stating that Kachin and Nagas had co-existed as a good neighbour since time immemorial, it said there existed no territorial confusion but mutual respects for each others’ sentiments, aspiration and determination. It added that Takka is a Naga town under Sagaing division, which is undeniable Naga territory since time immemorial, adding it can never be alienated through any external force. Konyak Union, therefore, appealed to all concerned to refrain from such unfounded remarks.
It also stated that today the Nagas and its land had been forcibly disintegrated into two nations. Further, Naga territory was disintegrated into Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh within an Indian Union. The cruelty of all division/ disintegration was laying off the imaginary boundary line that divides Longwa village and its Angh palace into two halves. It said such act of cruelty had ignited the Nagas to revolt for self determination. Thus, the arm struggle had started so as to integrate all its land and its people under a unified political umbrella, KU statement said.
KU also wondered as to how Kiren Rijiju could settle the seven decades old Naga struggles through a so called “rehabilitation package”? It viewed that such undermining expression of thought would only create more confusion and further provocation.
KU also opined that both Naypyidaw and New Delhi should sincerely understand the cultural, social, political and territorial sentiments and aspiration of the Nagas so as to culminate into a peaceful and early solution.
KU further extended utmost appreciation to the Shangnyu village for organising a homage service in honour of late Shangnyu Shangwang Khaplang.
