Kohima, April 7 (EMN): In a bid to improve the quality of the referees in the state, a seven-day football referee clinic organised by the Kohima Town Club (KTC) began on Saturday at the local ground.
Altogether 23 referees including five women have registered so far for the coaching camp.
The clinic is being conducted under the supervision of Joy Chandra, AIFF licensed referee instructor, and Tareen Kumar, referee instructor of All Manipur Football Association. The clinic would conclude on April 12.
The KTC football referee clinic was inaugurated by the general secretary of Nagaland Football Association (NFA), Neibu Sekhose, as the chief guest.
Sekhose, in his speech, has lauded the initiative of the Kohima Town Club for organising the referee clinic. He expressed hope that the referee clinic would prove useful in the forthcoming second edition of Kohima football league.
While emphasising on the importance of grooming and training the referees, Sekhose said good tournament needs a good referee. He said beautiful game is in need of good referee. He further spoke on the importance of maintaining physical and mentality fitness for a good referee.
Dr. Viketuolie Pienyu, president KTC, in his welcome address, said the clinic was aimed to improve the standard of the state referees. While pointed out that KTC aimed to developed football at the grassroots level as Nagaland is left far behind in football standard when compared to the neighbouring states.
