Diphu, Dec.18 (EMN): The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) has strongly opposed the special TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) examinations scheduled to be held on Dec. 24 at Nagoan.
In a show of its resentment, the student body burnt the effigy of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Roughing in front of their office along the Diphu-Lumding road on Dec. 18 Mon
Talking to media persons, the president of the students Simeon Rongphar said that conducting special TET examinations by the BJP-led state government was nothing but ‘detrimental’ and that it curtailed the power of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian constitution. He demanded that a special TET should be conducted by the authority of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council as was done during other years and not by the state government. ‘In this regard we have submitted various number of memoranda to the state and KAAC government too,’ he said.
Simeon Rongphar said also that the Sixth Schedule (3) 3 (A) (D) clearly mention the power of the council, that a council can make laws and rules. He referred to the memorandum of 1996 that executive power had been given to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous council, Rongphar strongly condemned the state led BJP government for imposing TET in Karbi Anglong district which is the Sixth Schedule area.
