Kohima, Jan. 19 (EMN): The 8th foundation day of Kros College, at Lerie in Kohima, was held with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio attending as the event’s honoured guest.
The chief minister addressed the event. Congratulating the institution on its eighth year of establishment, he said it was a college with a vision as it not only imparts quality education but encourages extra co-curricular activities also. He praised the institution’s proprietor Suoho, for his humanitarian act in accommodating the less fortunate and the poor. He lauded the college for giving special attention to women empowerment and rights as well.
Encouraging the students, Rio said college days was not only the best days of one's life but also the best time to learn and be equipped to face the challenges of the world.
"Education gives knowledge and knowledge is power, so you must grab this opportunity to expose and experiment with your talents along with the knowledge gained to become professionals in order to face the world," the chief minister said.
Emphasizing on the importance of education, he said acquiring education was a lifelong process and not confined to schools and colleges alone. "The more you learn, the higher you will climb the height of success so you should take it seriously as your best may not be good enough for you to face the world," Rio asserted.
Asking the young students to be agents of change, Rio asked them to empower themselves with knowledge apart from those from books and to work for the positive transformation of the Naga society. He assured that his government was committed to bringing change to the society as was promised during the elections.
The chief minister asked the young minds to work tirelessly for positive transformation of the Naga society ‘with patience as social reformation cannot change overnight.’
"Nagas should not be bogged down with our internal problems and lie idle waiting for a better deal but our people especially the young people should commit and lead for the changes we want in our society as you are our hope and our future," he added.
The chief minister was accompanied by Y Patton, deputy chief minister; and Mhathang Yanthan, advisor for horticulture. Earlier, he inaugurated a few restrooms in the college campus, which were constructed as part of the flagship programme Swach Bharat Abhiyan. It was followed by the opening of Sadze, a form of vintage point that was used during the ancient times. It is used as a lookout to check for animals and other encroachments in fields.
