DIMAPUR — The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren, organised a training-cum-awareness campaign on “Farm to fork approach for strengthening pig and poultry meat value chain and enhancing income of tribal farmers through ICAR technologies and input distribution under TSP” at the Women Welfare Conference Hall, Jalukie, on Tuesday.
The poultry chick distribution was sponsored by the ICAR-National Meat Research Institute (NMRI), Hyderabad, under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) project.
According to an update, the event brought together 107 farmers, including village chairmen and head gaon buras from many villages of the Peren district, to discuss good livestock management practices.

Dr KL Meena, principal scientist and head of KVK Peren, and the programme coordinator spoke about the KVK activities and the TSP component. In his speech, he expressed gratitude to the director, ICAR-NMRI, Hyderabad, for extending support to the Peren district farmers. He suggested maintenance of the livestock to achieve sustainable agricultural development, adding that it will uplift the socio-economic status of the tribal farmers.
Thereafter, technical sessions on various topics were held. Dr. L Babita Devi, chief technical officer (CTO) of Animal Science, KVK Peren, delivered an interactive session on “Disease management in pigs and poultry”. Z James Kikon, CTO of Soil Science, KVK Peren, delivered a lecture on “Integrated farming system for livelihood improvement”. Dr. Prashant Kalal delivered a lecture on “Livestock entrepreneurship”.
Farmers were involved in the discussion on animal disease management, the integrated farming system, and good agricultural practices. Subsequently, dual-purpose chicks (Vanraja breed) were distributed to the farmers.
