DIMAPUR — Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kohima, organised a two-day training programme on ‘Scientific cultivation practices of groundnut’ on July 25 and 26 at its campus and Chiechema village.


An update from KVK Kohima stated that the training was aimed at promoting sustainable groundnut farming and also to enhance farmer awareness on scientific groundnut cultivation and its broader potential. The training was conducted with the sponsorship of ICAR–Indian Institute of Groundnut Research, Junagadh, Gujarat.


The technical sessions covered a comprehensive range of topics including improved scientific farming methods, crop protection, improved varieties, post-harvest and storage technique and value addition opportunities.

The resource persons were Dr. Martina Shitiri, ACTO (genetics and plant breeding), Dr. Sashirenla Aier and Dr. Sesenlo Kath, technical officers. They delivered insightful lectures on various aspects of groundnut cultivation- from improved agronomic practices to plant protection strategies and post-harvest value addition techniques.


The event was also marked by distribution of agri-inputs and groundnut seeds to the participants.


The programme concluded with a field visit-cum-demonstration on various groundnut products. The field visit provided participants with practical insights into improved cultivation practices and real-time demonstrations, guided by the staff of KVK Experts.


Altogether, 80 farmers attended the training.
