DIMAPUR — A week-long programme ‘Krishi Samriddhi Week’ organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mon, got underway in Aboi town under Mon district on December 5.
The inaugural programme was attended by Pulhushe Yepthomi, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Aboi, as the guest of honuor and members of Konyak Union (KU) with KNSK of Aboi unit as special invitees.
Dr. V Akashe Zhimomi, senior scientist and head of KVK, Mon, delivered the keynote and welcome address. He emphasised on the significance of 50 years of KVK existence and its impact on agricultural development in the country.
The guest of honour congratulated KVK staff on attaining golden jubilee and encouraged the KVK and farmers to work together hand in hand. He also encouraged the farmers to collaborate and communicate with KVK to let technology resolve climate change, manage pest and diseases.
The president of Konyak Union, on behalf civil society and KNSK, expressed happiness on the impact made by KVK in Mon district for 17 years. He encouraged the farmers to take advice of KVK experts to solve their problems in the fields.
Later, during the World Soil Day 2024 and Swachhta Pakwada programme, Zhiete, ACTO (Soil Conservation), spoke on the negative impact of deforestation such as industrial pollution and soil erosion. He explained how human advancement and harmful practices have destroyed eco-system and called upon the farmers to conserve soil and protect bio-diversity.
He also encouraged the farmers to practice cleanliness and community outreach on various aspect of clean India campaign.
Another session on plant health clinic was also organized, wherein Dr. Ruopfuselhou Kehie, ACTO (Plant Protection), gave a hands-on training on the common pest and diseases of winter crops and how to manage and apply organic pesticides.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Rongsensusang, ACTO (Animal Science), KVK Mon.
Altogether, 56 participants attended the programme.
