Dimapur, Nov. 16 (EMN): NDPP president and PDA chairman Chingwang Konyak inaugurated the much-awaited Mon District Museum, which was funded by the Ministry of Culture and constructed by Tenak Society Mon, on November 16 at a function held in Shamnyu Ward, Mon Town.
This was informed by Tenak Society Mon through an update on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering at the inaugural programme, Konyak lauded the Tenak Society for its efforts in constructing the museum and expressed hope that the facility will help preserve the ancient antiques, culture and tradition of the Konyaks in particular and Nagas in general.
Maintaining that history of ‘Naga tradition and culture is a treasure for the next generation’, he said it should not be neglected and encouraged the people to consider the museum as a treasure. He further urged the youth to get into private sector and entrepreneurship.
Konyak also asked the gathering to support the ongoing Naga political dialogue between the Naga national groups and the Central government so that the parties can arrive at an early solution which is “honourable and acceptable to all sections of the people.”
Tenak Society Mon (TSM) chairman Tonlih Konyak said that the proposal for a district museum was put up with an aim to preserve the rich culture and traditional artefacts of Konyak tribes in particular and the Nagas in general. She added that the society decided to get financial help from the Ministry of Culture to construct a museum for the benefit of Konyak tribe.
Stating that the museum is one of the first in the history of Mon district being undertaken by the TSM, she requested every individual and general public to contribute artefacts.
