DIMAPUR — The
Konyak Union (KU) has condemned the abduction of one Md. Muslek Ali, a resident
of Hati Camp (Namtola), who was reportedly taken by gunmen associated with the
proscribed NSCN-K (Ang Mai) group on November 25.
In a statement issued on Friday, the KU demanded Ali’s
unconditional release within 24 hours. “Failure to comply will compel the KU to
declare public non-cooperation with the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) group,” it warned.
The KU asserted that it does not endorse or support any
unlawful activities that threaten to disrupt the public peace and harmony
shared by the Konyak and Assamese communities.
“Over the past decade, our communities have fostered a
peaceful relationship and coexisted as good neighbours without any untoward
incidents. This hard-earned peace is a fruit of mutual understanding and
respect, and no group or individual should attempt to disturb and jeopardise
this harmony,” the statement read.
The union stressed that any allegations against individuals
should be addressed through legal channels, not through abduction, which only
create unnecessary tensions and mistrust. The timing of the abduction, as the
festive season approaches, it said, “risk disrupting daily activities, business
exchanges, and the movement of students and the sick, impacting the well-being
of both communities.”
It further urged “all concerned stakeholders and leaders
from our counterparts to exhibit resilience and to ensure that peace and
harmony remain intact for the benefit of all.”
