Dimapur, August 28 : Perturbed by incidents of violence following abrogation of cease-fire and recent one along border between Indian Security Forces and NSCN-K, the Konyak Union (KU) today appealed to Government of India and NSCN-K to immediately denounce all forms of violence and hard stance against each other, saying such incidents not only inject fears in the minds of children but also restricts all forms of public conveniences.
A statement issued by KU president S. Manlip Konyak and general secretary Honang Konyak said, “Mon district, the land of the Konyaks had been doled out as the cradle of conflict and bloodshed ever since the struggle for sovereignty by Nagas. Such sufferings, fears and hardship faced in the past had numerous untold stories which could never be erased from the mind of the people. The Konyak union expresses utmost dismay that the innocent Konyaks had always been inflicted upon on account of various incidents that had taken place in the past. Hence, both the Government of India and Naga political groups should reason out for peaceful solution without delay.”
On the recent abrogation of the ceasefire between the two, the Konyak Union outrightly expressed unhappiness that lack of sincerity on both sides had resulted in the abrogation of the cease-fire.
The union while strongly voicing out in support for peace and solution appealed both the parties to consider their stance.
On the backwardness of Konyak area under Myanmar, KU said, the zeal of Myanmar Konyak students are left with no option but to venture out to India (Mon) for acquiring education.
The union however said, the present situation has created untold hurdles in the minds of Konyak students from Myanmar.
“Hence, both NSCN-K and Indian security forces should consider the plight of those students by avoiding unnecessary confrontation and stand-off attitude along the border.”
The union noted that the August 19 incident had restricted the medical team from its mission to subside the recent outbreak of measles along the border area.
The Konyak Union also appealed the state government to immediately initiate in bringing both the parties to a negotiating table for an amicable solution and peaceful environment.
