- DIMAPUR — The
Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) observed the 20th death anniversary of Panglem and
Chahtai at KSU Martyrs’ Park in Mon town on Tuesday.
- An update from KSU stated that on March 18, 2005, two
innocent students namely Panglem and Chahtai both hailing from Totok Chingnyu
village were mercilessly killed by NSCN (IM).
- As it marked the 20th years, KSU remembered with deep sorrow
how the two students fell victim to such a heinous act in Leangha village,
while responding to the Konyak Union’s clarion call for a peace rally, where
two factions had engaged in conflict.
- The KSU affirmed its stand in reminding the perpetrators
that such barbaric actions would never be tolerated in the future. It also
reminded that no nation has ever progressed by shedding the blood of its own
brothers.
- “This tragic chapter in our history will not be erased—it
will be remembered as a painful but significant lesson for generations to
come,” KSU stated.
- It also called upon all responsible individuals and
organisations to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated saying, “Let
this be a reminder that peace and unity must always prevail over violence.”
- The programme was chaired by Yeihtai, KSU education
secretary, while an invocation prayer was said by Rev. H Moba, pastor of KBCM,
and solidarity messages were delivered by A Pangnan, KSU general secretary;
Tingthok Konyak, president of Konyak Union; Ponglem Konyak, president of KNSK;
