The urban public health center of Kohima conducted a series of medical camps in the district recently under the aegis of the chief medical officer’s establishment. The “outreach” health service is a special initiative of the NUHM which aims at providing healthcare services to marginalized communities.According to the health authorities, 5 health camps and 12 urban health and nutrition events were organized across Kohima’s urban areas. During the health camps, the citizens were provided ‘comprehensive health services’ and assistance that included curative, preventive, “promotive” and referral services.
“These outreach camps not only work as a general curative intervention but also aims at promoting health seeking behavior, building awareness regarding common ailments, family planning methods, nutrition, hygiene and sanitation. These camps provide comprehensive health services free of cost,” the organizers informed in a press release on Wednesday, July 1.
Five health camps and 12 urban health and nutrition events were organized across the town and offered comprehensive health services. The service included curative, preventive, “promotive” (sic) and referral services, the organizers informed.
Over 1, 987 patients availed free consultation, medicines, vaccinations and laboratory services during the heal events. Also, approximately 40,000 persons have received free JE vaccination in schools and other varied health camps over the course of the initiative. The health services were organized in collaboration with the panchayats, Anganwadi and local youth organizations for maximum impact on the community.
“We are overwhelmed by the response and are happy to see a vast number of patients. The support from the community has encouraged and motivated us to organize many such camps in the future”, the press release said.
