Kohima, March 22 (EMN): The 3rd interschool under-16 cricket tournament organised by Kohima District Cricket Association got underway at Kohima local ground on Thursday.
Three schools namely Chandmari Higher Secondary School, Chandmari Government School and Baptist High are participating in the tournament which is being played on league format and the best two teams will play the final.
Playing the inaugural match, Chandmari HSS defeated Baptist High by 94 runs. Baptist High electing to bowl first failed to restrict the runs as Chandmari scored a mammoth 215 for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. Azad Hussain and Diyam remained not out at 109 and 25 runs respectively.
Chasing the target, Baptist High were all out for just 120 runs in 18 overs. Kethovizo scored 38 runs and Lumbomo 15 runs. Azad of Chandmari HSS claimed three wickets and was adjudged man of the match.
Hyuhinlo Khing member of Cricket Development Committee under Nagaland Cricket Association inaugurated the tournament. He encouraged the young cricketers to focus on their goal as there is no backdoor to achieve success except through hard work and dedication.
He said sport is not only a hobby now for individuals but a multimillion industry if taken up professionally. Khing hoped that in the future Nagaland will be able to host Ranji trophy matches at Sovima Cricket Stadium in Dimapur and give exposure to the young players from the state.
