Dimapur, July 10 (EMN): Marking ‘World Population Fortnight,’ which is celebrated from July 11 to the 24th, Kohima and Tuensang districts have organised programmes on the theme “Provision of family planning services even in a crisis for a self reliant nation and family.”
In Kohima, the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Kohima, along with the district health society under the department of Health and Family Welfare held a district review meeting-cum-launching of ‘World Population Fortnight’ on July 9 at PMTI conference hall.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Rupert Peseyie, DPO (RCH-UIP), while the technical session on Nagaland Health Project (NHP) was highlighted by CMO, Dr. Vezokholu Theyo, and non-communicable disease (NCD) programme was taken up by the deputy CMO, Dr. Khriesilie Sachu.
The district has planned to organise advocacy and awareness campaigns in all the blocks and villages. The activities would include exhibition of family planning methods – use of contraceptives and other spacing methods, need for delay in marriage and first child birth, counselling of clients on the basket of choices and motivation of eligible couples for availing family planning services such as IUCD and PPIUCD insertions, condoms, tubectomy and vasectomy including awareness on HIV/AIDS.
It has also planned to convey messages on delaying age at marriage, healthy spacing at birth, post partum family planning, male participation in family planning, post abortion family planning.
The IEC activities would include focus group discussion in selected health units besides distribution of pamphlets, leaflets and putting up banners and posters at prominent places in line with the new family planning media campaign.
The CMO, Dr. Vezokholu Theyo, in her closing remarks, stressed on the importance of observing ‘World Population Stabilisation Fortnight’ by mobilising and carrying out intensive awareness as to reach maximal target even at this time of pandemic of Covid-19. She added that all healthcare providers should be accountable and prompt in carrying out the activities.
Meanwhile, Tuensang district observed the ‘World Population Day’ in the conference hall of the chief medical officer’s (CMO) office on Saturday.
The programme was chaired by the CMO Dr. Lanuchuba, wherein he urged the healthcare workers not to forget taking photographs. He also reminded those who have not received the IEC materials on family planning, OCP, PTK, IUCD insertion etc., to collect it from his office.
The members have also discussed creating awareness on Covid-19 vaccination. It also decided to conduct random sample testing on Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the medical officer, Dr. Imlong, informed that the District Hospital has not been converted to a Covid-19 hospital. He, therefore, urged the public to avail medical services without hesitation.
