Dimapur, Oct. 4 (EMN): In support of the indefinite Dimapur bandh called by the Public Action Committee, the Kohima District Truck Owners and Drivers’ Union has announced that no trucks will ply within its jurisdiction from 6 am to 6 pm on October 7.
In a press release issued on Friday, the union blamed the Dimapur district administration for not checking and regulating the prices of commodities, and the practice of issuing contract lease for tax collection, especially by DMC and ‘the illegal practices of syndicate system.’
It appealed to all the truck owners to comply with the union’s decision.
Also, the union appealed to the deputy commissioner of Kohima to immediately stop illegal collections by ‘public organisations/Nagaland police/government departments' in and around Kohima district.

In another statement, the Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) extended its support to the proposed indefinite bandh in Dimapur from October 7. It stated that the ‘protest and bandh’ is solely for the welfare of consumers and appealed to the latter to “extend full support so as to stop all these illegal taxation not only in Dimapur but (also in) entire Nagaland.”
The organisation also appealed to the state government to issue necessary directions to all the district administrations in Nagaland to do the needful in executing the government’s standing order in banning illegal collection of cash at the check-gates and on any highways.
It reminded that the Kohima bench of Gauhati High Court has disallowed any organisation/union/association/federation, etc., from collecting cash on any highways.
