A traffic constable attached to the Kohima traffic administration was honored Saturday in Kohima town for his services, which, benefactors to the award said, were ‘best’. Traffic policeman Kedolhoukho Zeliang was honored by an organization of contractors during a Christmas program they observed December 14 in the capital town. The Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union celebrated “advent Christmas” by honoring Traffic Police Constable K Zeliang as the ‘best traffic policeman’ in Kohima. Zeliang is attached to the town’s South Police Station. The constable was given a citation and Rs. 15, 000 cash by the union.
Greeting the gathering, Superintendent of Police of Kohima Rothihu Tetso lauded the NCSU for their contributions to the society. The police officer cited the example of American multi-billionaire Warren Buffet who is a major contributor to charity and humanitarian works. He expressed gratitude to the union for acknowledging the services of const. Kedolhoukho with the Best traffic “personnel” award.
Also, addressing the event, president of the NCSU Pele Khezhie expressed optimism that the get-together would herald a ‘new thought and understanding to work towards a common goal’. Explaining the background behind the felicitation of the traffic policeman, he said the union’s initiative in honoring individuals for their services in various categories was in commemorating the 50th anniversary of Nagaland’s statehood.
Lauding the efforts of the traffic personnel in the state’s capital town Kohima, for their efforts in helping man the chaotic vehicular movement of the town, Pele expressed gratitude to SP of Kohima and his team for nominating their candidate. Nonetheless, he reasserted the importance of traffic regulations and the need for the public to cooperate with the traffic establishment to help improve traffic the apparatus.
Member of the union Vilelie Khamo also addressed the function. He emphasized on the importance of being honest in own duty that in turn would benefit others. Among other matters, he said that the NCSU would be organizing a demonstration on “road metalling” and techniques and materials employed for such works, in the presence of engineers. The event he informed of, is scheduled to be conducted on January 1, 2014.
