Kohima to continue odd-even traffic regulation

Dimapur, Oct. 1 (EMN): To minimise non-essential movement of vehicles and for better traffic management in Kohima municipal areas and in exercising powers under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima Gregory Thejawelie in an order issued on Wednesday, informed that odd-even system for movement of private vehicles, including public transport (Taxis and city buses) has been implemented under the jurisdiction of Kohima Municipal areas, with immediate effect and will remain enforced till October 31.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, only vehicles with registration numbers ending with odd numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 shall be allowed to ply and on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, only vehicles with registration numbers ending with even numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, 0.

However, press and two-wheelers (without pillion rider); vehicles carrying emergency medical equipment, essential commodities, LPG cylinders and oil tankers; and inter-state trucks carrying essential commodities bound for the state of Manipur are exempted.

All permits and exemptions issued prior to the issue of the order shall stand cancelled with immediate effect. Violation of the order will be liable to be penalised under Section 177 and 179 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, it stated.
