Kohima sports bodies hold a preparatory meeting and basketball trials for the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2026.
DIMAPUR — Preparations for the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2026 gathered pace in Kohima as sports associations held a coordination meeting and the Kohima District Basketball Association (KDBA) conducted selection trials on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kohima B Henok Buchem held a meeting with officials and representatives of sports associations at the DC's office on September 18 to review preparations for the games, which are scheduled to take place from November 2 to the 14th in Chümoukedima and Dimapur.
According to an update, representatives from athletics, basketball, boxing, football, taekwondo, archery, and wushu associations briefed the administration on their preparations. The meeting discussed logistics and expenditure requirements of the Kohima district contingent.
Addressing resource constraints regarding athletics selection trials, the DC endorsed the use of the Indira Gandhi Stadium free of charge from the Department of Youth Resources and Sports.
The house selected the chef de mission and deputy chef de mission for the contingent and deliberated on reviving the Kohima District Sports Council, agreeing to convene a meeting after the games to initiate the process.
Members also resolved to seek clarification from the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) regarding quotas for athletes, managers, physiotherapists, and officials before convening another meeting on September 23.
Meanwhile, the KDBA conducted open trials at the Don Bosco Higher Secondary School basketball court to select players for the games.
A total of 61 players, comprising 19 female and 42 male players, registered for the trials. Out of the participants, 24 players, consisting of 12 men and 12 women, were selected to represent the district.
