Kohima Science College Jotsoma hosts its 64th Freshers' Social with formal and cultural programmes.
DIMAPUR — Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, celebrated its 64th Freshers' Social to welcome the incoming undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts at the college auditorium on September 11.
According to an update, during the formal session, meritorious students across various disciplines were presented with institutional and departmental awards for academic excellence.
Special guest, Advisor for School Education Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome delivered the keynote address touching on ancestral history, biopolitics, population data, and technological transitions.
Detailing Naga genetic lineage studies dating back to 1936, Dr. Yhome highlighted the global shift towards digital spaces. He observed that while local communities have inherent talents in traditional areas such as music, balancing these skills with digital literacy is essential.
To illustrate this, he cited state school education initiatives, including an INR 10 crore digital onboarding project with Google International and a planned partnership with IIT Delhi.

He encouraged the college faculty to integrate digital education tools into the curriculum to prepare students for leadership roles in the public and corporate sectors.
The informal session featured musical and dance performances by students, alongside guest appearances by artists Keneisenuo Sorhie, Sammy, and the band Pinkeye.
Veisounii Leo and Khumjano Ngullie were titled Mr. and Ms. Multimedia, while Dadie Medo and Yangerienla Longkumer were adjudged Mr. and Ms. Fashion Icon. Following the final question round for the top 12 contenders, Dadie Medo was crowned Mr. Fresher 2026, and Rovisenuo Hibo was crowned Ms. Fresher 2026.
