Kohima, Nov. 11 (EMN): With funding from University Grants Commission (UGC) scheme 2015-2017, a two storied building of Leone (Girls) Hostel Phase-II having accommodation capacity of 37 students with toilets and other facilities was inaugurated at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, on November 11. The new girls hostel constructed at a cost INR 70 lakh was inaugurated by its former principal and presently an Additional Director of Higher Education, Dr. I Anungla Aier.
Earlier, Aier also inaugurated the renovated basketball court, which was funded by the KSCJ Alumni 1996 passed out batch at the cost of INR 4.5 lakh, some 20 meters away from the newly constructed hostel.
Speaking at the formal ceremony, Aier said two new assets were added to the College through the efforts of the teaching faculties, staff, students, alumni and well wishers. Appreciating the building committee members, she said the dedicated efforts of the committee members comprising Dr. Limatemjem, Assistant Professor Department of Zoology, and Selie Puro, Assistant Professor Department of Geography, has really put the things come out in flying colours.
Aier, while appreciating the yeomen service of Alumni 1996 passed out batch who have generously contributed towards the excellent renovation of the basketball court, firmly believe that their investment would be harvested by their children in the near future.
In a brief report, women hostel construction committee Dr. Limatemjem said the construction started on June 16, 2015, and completed recently with an approximate duration of 2 years and 5 months.
In a separate report given by the Alumni 1996 passed out batch on basketball court renovation, alumni Moatemsu, Jio Centre Manager, Kohima, stated that the initial estimated cost budget was aimed at INR 2 lakh with two inches thickness for the floor. However, the floor thickness was enhanced to five inches during the course of renovation and the subsequent budget was raised to INR 4.5 lakh on completion. As per the report, the funding process was made through free will donation from the alumni friends circle and well wishers. The renovation work started in May 2016 and completed recently within 1 year 6 months
Selie Puro led the formal inauguration ceremony, while EU president Sehuto Kezo invoked God’s blessing and short speech was delivered by Dr. Lily Sema, College principal. The dedicatory prayer was performed by Er. Khoto Zetsuvi, chairman of Campus Christian Fellowship (CCF).
