Dimapur, Nov. 2 (EMN): In an effort to lay groundwork for building a sustainable mobility ecosystem, Ola Mobility Institute—the research and outreach arm of Ola, one of the world’s largest ride-hailing platforms— on Friday released India’s first Ease of Moving Index.
According to a press release from the institute, findings from the report show that frequency of using public transport among residents of ‘promising cities’ in India is highest in Kohima.
The report seeks to offer a comprehensive action plan for cities to further strengthen their public transportation systems and improve the overall state of mobility. 73% of Kohima residents feel the improved state of mobility over the last five years, according to the report.
The ‘Ease of Moving Index’ benchmarks cities on services offered, infrastructure and sustainability of mobility options, according to institute’s press statement. “The index offers insight into mobility preferences and aspirations of Indian commuters across 20 cities with a population of over 92 million.”
The report was released by Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Nitin Gadkari, on Friday in Delhi.
The cities for the survey were selected on five parameters – scale, character, culture, economy and geography. It assessed the accessibility, efficiency and safety of current transportation facilities. “With sustainability being the need of the hour, the index offers a roadmap which will aid transit agencies and urban planners to make informed decisions and align solutions with the preferences of commuters,” it stated.
