Dimapur, Nov. 6 (EMN): In a run-up of the mega Hornbill Festival 2018, the deputy commissioner of Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan held a meeting on Nov. 5 with the different departments in concern, the police, district administration, village councils, youth organisations and stakeholders for the preparation of the festival.
The DC, while deliberating on the status of the roads in and around Kohima, has requested the concern departments to complete maintenance works latest by Nov 20 and asked them to provide continuous status updates about the progress of the work. He further reminded the optical fiber, cables and wires along the highway to keep in a proper way. He also informed that separate meetings for security coordination and traffic management would be convened soon.
The DC further appreciated the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) for implementation of ‘plastic free zone’ at Kisama and the entire stretch of night carnival and at the same time asked the shopkeepers along the national highway starting from Kohima till Khuzama to paint the shops and shutters.
Senior SP Kohima, Vekhosa Chakesang informed that ‘tourist police’ would also be deployed for the safety and security of the tourist during the hornbill festival. Training for the tourist police is scheduled in mid November. Chief Manager of SBI also informed that mobile ATMs will be provided at Kisama and assured to ensure that ATMs are supplied with sufficient cash during the festival.
The Kohima Chambers of commerce and industries requested the concerned departments to ensure sufficient street lights are installed for smooth activities of night carnival in Kohima.
